Product details

Stephen Emmerson teaches piano at the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane and Bernard Lanskey teaches piano at the Guildhall School of Music on London, yet they manage to get together regularly and give piano 4-hand concerts.

Their programme in this recording features two of the key works in this repertoire: the Brahms Variations and the Schubert Fantasie, with a set of dances by each composer. And a work written for this duo by Queensland composer (now working at the Guildhall School of Music on London) Andrew Schultz.

"12 Variations" was written to complement the other works on this CD, and the subtitle ('Gesangvoll mit innigster empfindung' รท 'Song-like, with inner feeling') refers to Beethoven, who gave that same instruction to the theme and variations which conclude his Piano Sonata opus 109.

Duration: 61 min.

Liner notes include brief programme notes and biographical notes on the performers and Andrew Schultz.

Capture session: Recorded 18-19 August 1997, Studio 200, ABC Sydney.

Recording level: DDD.
