Product details

This is an arrangement of a Gaelic tune found in a book by Waltons Publishing of "Irelands's Best Slow Airs". I have ornamented the melody for the text and composed the chordal accompaniment with a contrast of quaver and crotchet triplets and quavers to highight the turmoil of the drowning. The piccardy third at the end suggest a resolution to the ornamental melody in the same way there could be a sense of relief after the keenng (Irish wailing) and other funerial rites. The text is my orginal adaption of a translation of the Gaelic. Raftery was the Irish poet of the Gaelic text. He was arguably the most famous bard of his day - a great poet and singer and also fiddle player. He was homeless and went from village to village singing and playing to survive which was no mean feat because he was also blind.
