Product details

Though conceived on a single-manual harpsichord, the composer wishes the present Fantasy to be playable on any harpsichord, and does not discount the possibility of playing it on other keyboard instruments: the final decision being left to the player. In the passages for crossed hands, a certain evenness of tone is desired, which will be best attained by playing on one manual. In the interests of playability, indications as to which hand must cross are given (ie 'sopra' for the hand which will go above the other). Of all musicians, the harpsichordist is perhaps the most accustomed to using his or her own creativity, thus the composer has found it unnecessary to indicate registrations. The notation of the 'double slur' has been adopted to show over-legato effects. The Tempo demento which concludes this piece references the famous minuet of Christian Petzold, in a somewhat demented form, hence the title.
