Product details

For Four was commissioned by the piano duo, my good friends Natalia and Gianni Ricci, to be played on the Stewart pianos at the Newcastle Conservatorium, and I thought immediately of writing a work that would sit nicely on a program with the Bartok 2 piano and 2 percussion piece. Given the difficulty of otherwise bringing this ensemble together I had always thought that a more likely performance vehicle would be a soloist or duo with backing track. At the time I prepared the backing track and even considered playing a percussion part myself, but a performance didn't eventuate.

Dedication note: Dedicated with gratitude to Natalia and Gianni
