Sheet Music: ScoreGlances, repose : violin solo / Haydn Reeder.by Haydn Reeder (1979)

Product details
This piece is in one movement comprising four sections. The quiet, still second section is central to the work and is flanked by sections one, three and four which display striving and progression. This form suggested to the composer the image of the face of an Indian dancer whose eyes glance from side to side but whose other features remain passive. This is the derivation of the title.
The image is appropriate also because it has associations with the wide ranging and outward-directed motion of the outer sections and with the 'glancing' bow of the fourth section.
Two melodically conceived ideas form the basis of the pitch material, one active and twelve-tone, the other, passive and more limited.
Many types of expression and technique are required of the performer.
