Sheet Music: Score
Hidden dimensions : Piano trio no. 2 / Lorenzo Alvaro.
by Lorenzo Alvaro (2009)
My affinity with jazz has rubbed off on this work. The ostinato and melody in the second movement was originally the base material for a piece I intended to write for big band. As yet, the big band piece does not exist. Having composed the second movement first, I then composed the first movement as a prelude. As the piece begins, it does not allude to jazz, but mereley highlights the harmonic implications of the first two movements. The pizzicato riff in the cello at the end of the first movement is the first jazz nuance. The third movement is an arrangement and recomposition of a piano jazz-miniature I had previously composed. It is fast, energetic and exciting keeping both performers and listeners on their toes.
