Product details
Written as a housewarming gift for conductor Jennifer Lester, In loco isto (2002) sets the words spoken by Jacob on waking from his dream of the angels ascending and descending. My take on the text is not as a celebration of a particular place, but rather as a heightened sensitivity to the divine presence anywhere and everywhere, especially in places which might have seemed familiar and ordinary. In this work the multiple languages are not allocated strictly to different singers (as is the case in And I heard a voice and Rezo). The whole choir sings in each language in turn at first, before all three are superimposed in the final section. The music is built around the idea of taking another look at things, from a fresh and sometimes surprising angle - whether by shifting from one language to another, or reinterpreting a note or chord in a new context.
