Product details

This contemporary art song set for Mezzo-Soprano or Baritone voice is the twelfth song in Margaret Brandman's 'Cosmic Wheel of the Zodiac' Song Cycle;. The lyrics are by astrologer and poet Benita Rainer who has artfully distilled the individual characteristics of this star sign in her text.

The ultimate water sign, Pisces has seen it all as the cosmic wheel comes full circle.

Set in Fminor, the melodies move in a fluid manner over changing time signatures. . Then go quite deep to the heart of Neptune's realm' The deep bass line in the piano accompaniment features a pulsating dotted rhythm which moves the music forward. In the opening bars of the A section, this bass line is written using a dominant pedal. When the melody occurs a second time at Bar 15, it is underpinned by tonic pedal incorporating the same rhythmic motif but with a more chromatic harmony in the right-hand piano part. Several of the mystical aspects of the lyrics have been harmonised with modal chord progressions. The tune ends with a final forte flourish for the text 'Whether we like it or not!'
