In 1995, BBC music producer Alan Hall visited Knoxville, Tennessee, and made recordings with local citizens about the city and culture immortalised in James Agee's prose poem 'Knoxville, summer of 1915'. Created by composer Doris Hays who grew up in America's deep South, "Southern voices" investigates ways southern speakers distinguish themselves from region to region.
