This piece was commissioned by Shirley West who wrote:
"I thought of this idea since reading in the Bible - Revelation
22:2 where part of it says: In the midst of the street of it and
on either side of the river, was there the Tree of Life which
bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month,
and the leaves of the Tree were for the healing of the
nations."
Shirley also sent me the picture of leaves depicted on the front
cover of the score, "as they are special showing God's handiwork
with all the intricate shapes and markings on them."
These leaves were sent to her by her friend Gwen Hawthorne in
Ireland.
