Product details

Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence is a choral prelude on a traditional French carol, with sung passages and instrumental interludes. This melody is also a hymn tune for a translation of a fourth century Greek and Syriac text, which gives the piece its title.

The text is a series of poems by Australian John Carroll, which compares Stonehenge with Lake Mungo in central Australia. Lake Mungo is framed by the 'Walls of China', a curved 25-kilometre lunette (sand dune) made up of sand and clay formations that are up to 40 metres high, and which from space look like a thin crescent moon. The oldest human cremated remains have been found there. Rosh Chodesh is Hebrew for new moon. The text ends with the last verse of the hymn.
