Media vita is the fourth solo piano album from Tim Stevens on Rufus Records, and features pieces written in 2016, when Tim set about writing a tune every day of the leap year. It's an album entirely of tunes, this time featuring no free playing but taking the compositions as starting points for improvisation using either all or some of their chord structures.
The album covers a broad emotional spectrum, dealing with sadness and dejection but also with hope and joy. Tim's harmonic language is as ever rich and distinctive, and the pianism is varied in colour and dynamic.
Probably the most immediately accessible of his solo albums, Media vita continues and extends a musical adventure well underway.
