Mots d'heures: gousses, rames; The d'Antin Manuscript published by Luis d'Antin van Rooten in 1967, is purportedly a collection of poems written in archaic French but is in fact a number of English nursery rhymes written homophonically in nonsensical French posing as surreal poetry.

Published by: Australian Music Centre — 1 facsimile score (24p. -- A4 (portrait))

Difficulty: Advanced

Duration: 11 min.

Contents note:

Nine songs based on imitation French surreal poetry. Jane Mannings, who gave the work's first performance, has described the songs as 'very witty'. In fact, humour was the intention of the poetry written by two American academics and the music attempts to match the poetry.

First performance by Jane Manning, Kim Bastin — 1994. Glenn College Studio, La Trobe University

Includes programme note about the text.

A musical spoof.
