Product details

The latest CD from Le Tuan Hung, featuring compositions by respected Australian composers and performers including Ros Bandt, Brigid Burke, Warren Burt and Deborah Kayser, was nominated for the 2005 ARIA Awards.

On the Wings of a Butterfly is a collection of cross-cultural compositions by eight Australian composers. Instruments, colours of tones, concepts and voices from many cultures are explored and combined to generate new musical entities that transcend the artificial boundaries between East and West.

In this collection, listeners will experience the exquisite vocals of Ria Soemardjo and Deborah Kayser in combination with the meditative sounds of the shakuhachi, the delicate voice of the Vietnamese zither dan tranh interlocking with the harmonics of the original Australian power pole bells, and waves of vibrant emotions in pieces for shakuhachi with harpsichord, and clarinet with Indian drums.

Duration: 63 min.

Performers: Deborah Kayser (soprano: Unde) ; Anne Norman (shakuhachi : Unde; Adrift; Pound Bend, Yarra River; Wimmera River, Lake Hindmarsh) ; Ros Bandt (medieval psaltery, Balinese suling (end-blown flutes): On the wings of a butterfly) ; Le Tuan Hung (dan trahn (Vietnamese zither): On the wings of a butterfly ; power pole bells, Vietnamese zither, Balinese flute, Oceanic panpipes: A song for sky bells) ; ) ; Ria Soemardjo (voice: Adrift) ; Peter Hagen (harpsichord: Pound Bend, Yarra River; Wimmera River, Lake Hindmarsh) ; Brigid Burke (clarinet: Grit) ; Wendy Couch (vibraphone and Indian drum: Grit) ; Warren Burt (computer: Poems of Rewi Alley) ; John Britton (spoken voice: Poems of Rewi Alley).
