The field recording playback can be triggered by the player or operated by a separate sound tech.

Product details

The work sets a grand piano notionally in the midst of a field of chorusing frogs (recorded by Jounaama Pondage in Talbingo NSW). The pianist needs to be willing to let go of precise relationships between the piano and the frogs (aiming for a loose counterpoint or gently distracted coexistence closer to some contemporary improv) in order for the piece to work its hypnotic magic. The music makes a gradual transition from high-pitched, febrile vibrating textures to lower, more meditative and resonant soundworlds. The 6 one-minute field recording segments arranged in the sequence ABAACC.
