Product details

This is a medium fast jazz composition in an even quaver style in 7/4. Bass and drums are accompanying and occasionally playing figures together with the piano. The main theme of the composition is constructed over a repeating bass motif. The composition features improvisations over the form of the tune, with a 'deconstruction' section, followed by rubato figures played on bass and piano before a return to the melody.

Published by: Australian Music Centre — 1 facsimile score (4p. -- A4 (portrait))

Difficulty: Medium — odd time meter (7/4) and some two handed piano voicings and specific bass line

Duration: 8 mins

First performance by Alister Spence, Lloyd Swanton, Toby Hall — 2000. Sony Music Studios

The composer notes the following styles, genres, influences, etc:
The piece is in a even jazz style written for piano trio. The tune doffs its hat somewhat to the funk genre. It is based on a 'groove' motif albeit a groove in 7/4. Other 'groove based' pieces I have written include: 'Zeebra', 'Mercury', 'Sleep Underwater'.

Released on the album 'Three Is A Circle' in Australia on Rufus Records in 2000, and on Earth Spirit Records in Japan in 2003.

"It would be no exaggeration to say that he, Spence, is fully rivaling the pianists who have brought about the present boom in piano trio music." Swing Journal (Japan), November 2003.

Typeset edition.
