Product details

'Reich Revisited' explores some the compositional techniques generally associated with 'minimalism', a term coined in the early seventies to describe the compositional practices of La Monte Young, Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Cornelius Cardew and Michael Nyman. The piece displays its theorized stereotype characteristics of static harmony, patterned rhythms and repetition, and as the title implies, 'Reich Revisited' pays homage to one of its inspirational fathers, Steve Reich. Prevalent is rhythmic ambiguity, with duple and triple meters employed throughout. Quadruple and compound duple meters are combined, as well as compound triple, quadruple and triple meters, therefore establishing simultaneous duple and triple subdivisions of the beat.
