Product details

This Requiem was written in 1976 soon after Ian Bonighton's tragic death and is a tribute to a friend who was also an important teacher. Above all I remember how much he enlightened me about musical structure by his clear analysis of both classical and 20th Century compositions.

The piece is based on the musical notes extracted from his name - ABGH, providing a theme somewhat simliar to the BACH so often used by that composer and many others since. I think Ian would have liked this.

Originally the score was hand-written, and meant to be interpreted freely - with its rhythms and note values generally suggestive.(A copy of this score is held by the AMC). This has been retained in this revised score as much as finale would allow. I have also added dynamic and tempo markings according to my own interpretation for a recording made in 2011 for a CD production by Pogus Recordings (New York) planned for release in 2013.
