Product details
Late in 2010, Sydney Symphony Orchestra Principal Tuba Steve Rosse asked me for a piece for the 2011 Tubamania Festival in Bangkok, Thailand. Such a request from such a musician is manna from heaven, and I wrote Flying in Paradise fairly quickly for him. It was successfully received and Steve asked for another piece in mid-2011, this time for tuba and piano. Siam Nights, the piece that came form that request, was written in memory of the whirlwind three days and nights spent at 2011 Tubamania amid the sounds sights and chaos that in Bangkok. It is a piece that tries to evoke all of the nervous energy and joy I felt whilst I was there. It is based on a series of chords that cycle through at different speeds throughout the piece, recalling some of the cyclic manners of thought of eastern philosophy, while not actually subscribing to any of them particularly.
