Sheet Music: ScoreSonata 6 for piano : on 'D' / Don Kay.by Don Kay (2009)
|
Product details
This is my 4th piano sonata to have been composed in one continuous movement. It is structured in three main sections, basically fast, slow, fast. These demarcations are obscured a little by cross references from section to section as well as each section containing both faster and slower passages and the occasional sudden silence. Although it begins and ends on the pitch of D, there is no dominant tonality. The language of the work is somewhat 'pan tonal' and moves freely through a range of keys. The rhythmic patterns involve frequently changing metric groupings. The work opens briskly but soon gives way to a completely contrasting idea which is related to a slow, expressive, domination of the central section. The final section introduces new material but quite soon leads to a summary of earlier events, to conclude the work in an assertive manner.
