Product details

Ten Exotic Preludes are a compilation of several early works together with some new pieces that focus on various technical issues.

No. 1 Allegro Agitato - opens in the form of a LH exercise and then leads into some sequential position shifts.

No. 2 Moderato espressivo - RH free stroke repeated chords with i, m. Use as much rubato as you can and keep the sound even.

No. 3 Misterioso - a simple example of twelve tone writing, this can be repeated backwards reading right to left (this is quite tricky to do though and takes practice)

No. 4 Allegro con Spirito - the two bar RH pattern (3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 4) should be practised separately at first.

No. 5 Andantino Arabesco - uses an Oriental scale with 2nd position playing &changes in tone colour.

No. 6 Romance (Adagio) - is in neo-romantic style, use this to exercise your LH vibrato. The middle has some higher position chords and ½ barrés.

No. 7 Con Moto - is a contemporary exercise in slurs for the RH.

No. 8 Andante Tranquillo - requires soft legato playing. It has several ½ barrés in sequence & RH harmonics.

No. 9 Allegretto Misterioso - is in minimalist style using the "campanella" effect. So that the RH can continue the p, m, i pattern, use your LH first finger to pluck & hammer the bass notes.

No. 10 Tempo di Vals - is in the style of a short Venezuelan waltz. Rhythmic accuracy is needed and care when the melody changes to the bass. (thumb on the 4th string)
