Summary: Poems by Yusef Komunyakaa drive the narrative of this story, which was conceived as a homage to jazz musician Charlie Parker. The program features over thirty of Australia's finest jazz musicians and vocalists with a guest appearance by Kurt Elling. Originally produced for the now defunct Soundstage (radio drama and performance) on ABC Classic FM, the work has since been adapted for theatrical performance at the Sydney Festival and then the Melbourne International Festival of the Arts. Vocalists: Michael Edward-Stevens, Kristen Cornwell, Kate Swadling, Kurt Elling, Jackie Orszaczky, Tina Harrod, Toni Allaylis, Tanya Sparke, Pamela Knowles, Joe Lane, Michele Morgan and Lily Dior. Musicians: Bob Coassin, Warwick Alder and James Greening (trumpet) ; Sandy Evans, Bernie McGann, Casey Greene and Paul Cutlan (saxophones) ; John Rodgers (violin) ; Jackie Orszaczky, Dave Brewer and Jeremy Sawkins (guitar) ; Alister Spence, Chuck Yates and Laurence Hobgood (piano) ; Lachlan Doley (organ) ; Lloyd Swanton, Jonathan Zwartz and Steve Elphick (bass) ; Hamish Stewart, Fabian Hevia, Simon Barker and Alan Turnbull (drums and percussion).
