Sheet Music: Score
The third planet : cantata for solo voices, speaker, SATB choir and instrumental ensemble / Martin Friedel.
by Martin Friedel (1995)
The Third Planet is the second of my four 'science' cantatas. The text used are drawn and adapted from a wide variety of historical, mythical and scientific narratives, and have been distilled to a series of 'telling' fragments, about the ancient pre-occupations of astronomy, the night sky, the dreams of flying and, modern physics. This journey has culminated has in the exploration of space and land on the moon. It also and gave us the remarkable images of our small earth the vast, black cosmos…proof , if we needed it of our importance and our insignificance..
These themes are explored in the introduction to the score.
