The miniature suite Three Folk Tunes may be played by a varied combination of violins, violas and celli with piano accompaniment. (The middle movement is without piano.) The folk music material is taken from the album Introduction to Thumb Position on the Cello by A W Benoy and L Sutton (Oxford University Press, London 1965, p. 2-3). The upper cello part is designed for students mastering the basics of the thumb position. Futhermore both string parts can be played by other, less advanced, students. The lyrics in the score are for reference purposes.
