Product details
Triptych is a 3 movement work for either youth or community orchestra. The string writing is somewhat advanced, reflecting the strength of the string section in the 2014 Central Coast Youth Orchestra. The piano should be acoustic. However, if a digital piano is used, it should blend with the rest of the orchestra. The last movement pays homage to the 1920's Australian film The Kid Stakes, and reflects the popular music of a very confident Australian decade.
Each movement of Triptych explores a different tonality. The 1st movement is an extended fanfare which occasionally uses its melodic G minor tonality as a harmonic field. 'Tango' is a lyrical exploration of the octatonic scale, with a tritone-derived pizzicato ground bass. 'Kid Stakes' is focussed on an energetic reiterative rhythm-an idee fixe. The tonality hovers between G minor natural and B flat major/minor.
