Sheet Music: ScoreTunnel vision : (A film by Ivan Hexter), for string orchestra, virtual analog synthesizer and drum loops / Andrián Pertout.by Andrián Pertout (2016)
|
Product details
Tunnel Vision was commissioned by Australian film-maker
Ivan Hexter, and intended as film music to be synchronized and
mixed with the film soundtrack of the Tunnel Vision documentary,
which "tells the compelling story of the community that rose up
in defiance against the divisive East West Link in Melbourne… the
extraordinary story of a community that stood up, found its voice
and made history."
The work serves as an exploration of the linear additive
compositional process, utilizing a diatonic interpretation of the
twelve-tone row from Alban Berg's Violin Concerto (1935), as well
as the musical implications of a mathematical approach for the
generation of rhythmic material, which is outlined in Creating
Rhythms (2014) by Stefan Hollos and J. Richard Hollos and
includes combinatorics, de Bruijn sequences, Christoffel words,
paper folding, and probability. The instrumentation of the work
features a standard string orchestra (4.4.2.2.1) in combination
with a Virtual Analog Synthesizer (from Arturia's V Collection 4)
modelled on the Roland Jupiter-8 (1981-1984) - originally
featuring 2 oscillators per voice, 2 LFOs, 2 filters and 2
envelopes, as well as eight voice polyphony. The complete
Arturia's V Collection 4 consists of the ARP 2600 V, CS-80 V,
Jupiter-8V, Matrix-12 V, Mini V, Modular V, Oberheim SEM V,
Prophet-V, Solina V, VOX Continental-V and Wurlitzer-V. A series
of contrasting drum loops (Drum Set 1 and 2, Hi-hat Pattern 1 and
2, and Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer Pattern 1 and 2)
additionally form the 'tape' element of the work.
