Sheet Music: ScoreWet night on the highway : for solo piano / Miriam Hyde.by Miriam Hyde (1958)
|
Product details
This began on the way home from doing my first telecast - a wet
night. As I waited for transport at Gore Hill, there was a
certain romance about the busy Pacific Highway - reflected
ribbons of light, the occasional dissonant motor-horn; red
tail-lights disappearing to the left; the swish of headlights to
the right, and the rain alternating between intermittent drizzle
and heavy showers.
An impressionistic piece, yet with a lot of romantic feeling.
Influences: possibly Debussy, Medtner (whom I heard in a piano
recital in London in the 1930s) and I think Frank Hutchens (via
Debussy!); maybe also a John Ireland type of pianism.
