Work Overview
"I recorded the goats strolling along the road towards their feeding place, playing the flute to find out what notes their bells were tuned to. Kostas, a local guitar maker gave me a real shepherd's flute, the habiouli, rarely played by the shepherds now. They arrive in their four wheel drives sounding their horns. The link between the flute songs and the goat bells has all but disappeared. The Greek word for song, tragoudi, is derived from the ancient Greek trágos. The goats are frisky with each other after a good feed from bagged wheat in the concrete roadside ravine. The goat farmer, satisfied, drives back to town hurriedly" -- Ros Bandt.
