Work Overview
I was awakened by a magpie singing outside my window in the wee
small hours: so I thought the best thing to do was record it -
ideal in the quiet of the night.
At the start of the piece you'll hear the magpie's song: then, a
version where it's stretched to eleven times the original
length.
When slowed down, complex bell-like qualities become apparent,
which complement the carillon sonorities.
The carillon gestures are largely derived from the magpie's song.
