Sonata for guitar : for solo guitar / Charles Bodman Rae.
Library shelf no. 787.87/BOD 1 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
My Sonata for Guitar was composed in Warsaw during the European Spring of 1982, fulfilling a Yorkshire Arts commission from the British guitarist and eminent Segovia scholar, Graham Wade. He gave the first performance (of many) in a recital at the King's Manor in York in October 1982. Although I had played the classical guitar as a teenager this was the first time I had written an extended work for the instrument. Instead of drawing on the guitar repertory, I found myself drawing a compositional and psychological model from a late Beethoven piano sonata. My sonata moves through four stages - introduction, crisis, repose, and renewal - of a psychological journey.
