Work Overview

Eoos is the Greek word for dawn. This is not used in a programmatic sense, but is meant as an indication on how to play the instruments, especially the flute. It means it has to be played raw and fresh. Flute literature is a difficult thing. Especially in combination with piano. A lot of these pieces show a resemblance, that is, to my opinion, caused by the stereotype sound of the flute. I tried to make the flute sound different in Eoos, liberate it of its 'girlish' weak sound. To achieve this it has to, for instance, play forte on low notes, which gives it an exalting sound. I have combined this with modern techniques like double notes. Both, piano and flute, have an equal important role, in fact it takes the flute a while to start playing, while the piano is already well on its way to enjoy itself being in the spotlight..
