Work Overview
Quiver for Flute, Bass Clarinet and Marimba was written in the final week of my residence at the Brevard Music Centre, Summer Festival, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina. Having been surrounded by wonderful music, musicians and friends for the prior five weeks, and having already written incredible amount of music, I was motivated to write short work with rhythmic focus and an inherent groove that would end our time together on a not too serious note. Quiver is approached with a playful, yet intense sense of curiosity towards the timbral, atmospheric, dynamic and rhythmic fluctuations. The music asks the listener to hold on to these elements all whilst being carried along by the playful, driving sense of pulse and 'quivering' energy.
