Work Overview
The title of this piece originates from Latin and means 'to follow'. Composed in 2001 during the time I was investigating modernist principles in tonality, the concept of Sequi was to follow pathways that would allow for a continually evolving musical development.
With the idea of stripping back complexity, this piece seeks to unearth basic elements which emerge from small structures and develop into larger, coherent forces. The design of the work follows the simple concept of fast motion within a slowly evolving form, the idea of an underlying calmness within surface turbulence. The language of Sequi uses a microtonal language within an overall tonical framework that provides a shape and direction for the work as a whole.
