Work Overview
Dotty is inspired by domestic music technologies of the day - the sequencing program Notator, for Atari computers, and rhythmic ratios generated by keyboard audio samplers. I was using an Ensoniq at the time. Additionally, I was interested in vocalisations without text, to the approach to the vocal line is mostly instrumental. I created a number of sequenced pages and put them into a sequence. As a score work, this provides a challenge for the instrumental performer in that the tempo needs to be maintained across the performance of the rhythmically varied cells.
