Work Overview

This is a brooding and technically challenging work for solo cello in which I have focussed intently on making the instrument speak. This is an exercise in ´music as language,´ and the use of the phrygian mode lends an oriental otherness to its vocabulary. Making use of open string pizzicatto over groaning double stops, this is a very emotional work, covering a large range of emotional and psychological terrain, culminating in an ascending and surreal ending.
