Sonata 8 for piano : towards stillness / Don Kay.

Work Overview
Unusually for me, I began composing this work not having thought of a context i.e. instrumentation, whether ensemble or solo, likely performers, or occasion. As it evolved it 'became' a piano piece, then a 'sonata' for piano. Questions of form arose. As a consequence, a purpose for it had to be considered. At my age, thoughts on mortality become more frequent. At a certain point in this process, I decided on trying to convey a metaphysical conundrum. Perhaps the final section, 'very still seeming', could be seen to represent that unsolvable problem.
