Kolo : piano solo [eScore] / Bozidar Kos.
Work Overview
Kolo is a common name for various folk dances of many Slavic peoples from the Balkan peninsula. They are usually danced by a larger group of dancers, holding hands and forming an open or closed circle. There exist a large variety of these dances with respect to steps, direction of movement, character of music, etc., but they all have one thing in common - they are dances of friendship. It is for this reason that I named my piano piece, commissioned by the Sydney International Piano Competition, Kolo.
Musical material of this work relates to folk dances only through the use of additive rhythms and asymmetric metric pulsations, which are characteristic particularly for kolo dances of southern Balkan.
