This Benedictus is part of the Osanna Mass, which is based on the set of plainchants for the Mass, Kyriale IX, and several Jewish liturgical melodies. Along with the Kyriale plainchant, the Benedictus incorporates a Jewish melody for the Aleinu prayer (a hymn of praise) and melodies derived from the song of several birds local to Sydney, Australia, including the magpie, blackbird and currawong.
