Since we are surrounded is one of three motets commissioned by the Reverend Matthew Williams and St James' Old Cathedral, Melbourne for the 175th anniversary celebrations of the laying of the foundation stone of the church. Taking up a text from Paul's letter to the Romans, in a simple verse/chorus form the piece begins with a free, chant-like treatment of the text, moving into a lyrical invitation to "run the race" with perseverance.
This piece is suitable for any liturgical occasion, especially foundation, patronal, or anniversary services.
