Work Overview
Golden Callistemon is effectively the musico-biography of a flower. The callistemon is a shrub native to Australia whose blossoms - more stamen then petal - present themselves in dense, regular patterns along a lengthy spike, much in the manner of a bottle-shaped brush. Often a vivid red, these flowers also come in pink, green, white, orange, and most strikingly of all, a golden yellow. The trials and tribulations of one such bottlebrush flower- burrowing beasts, frenzied pruning, searing drought, pecking birds, and finally torrential rain- act as the work's formal stem.
