Work Overview
Loquela is a compilation of songs based on poetry of women troubadours from 1100 - 1200. Each song is complete in itself as a minature form, although linked thematically to the othersin terms of the content. The work can be performed in its entirety or in the form of selected songs. The attraction of these texts lies in their timeless quality, a vivd documentation that relates to the present. The spoken sound of the words, written in Occitan (Langue d'oc) is very evocative, and in particular the structure of the poems interests me. They are written as a journal, sometimes broken off as if the thought continues on from this point. The women troubadours (trobaritz) were aristocracts, such as the Countess of Dia, who wrote in reply to their male counterparts in the form of a discourse.
