Work Overview
A concert overture for large orchestra, commissioned by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in 2001. This piece explores the concept of breaking the sound barrier; functioning as an overture that "breaks" the barrier of silence, into the ensuing sound of the concert to come.

Instrumentation: Piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, cor anglais, 3 clarinets in B flat (3rd doubling bass clarinet in B flat), 2 bassoons, contra-bassoon, 4 horns in F, 3 trumpets in C, 2 tenor trombones, bass trombone, tuba, timpani, percussion (2 players), strings.
