Work Overview

The Arafura Ensemble requested a work that would fit with the theme of their planned concert - Chamber Music Inspired by Folk Traditions.

Flamenco has its origins in Spanish and Gypsy folk culture but is important in many parts of the world including the Jewish and Arab world.

I have endevoured to include the various elements of Flamenco - toque (guitar), cante (singing), baile (dance) and palmas (claps) in the work in an effort to capture the incredible energy, vibrancy and pathos that it encompasses.
