The work seeks to reconcile change, specifially with regard to developments in music over the past twenty years, and the overwhelming events of recent world history.
Instrumentation: Singers: female vocalist (in 'world (Celtic) style), lyric soprano, countertenor, jazz singer. Speakers (in 3rd movt only): 4 voices (voice 2 also sings, voice 4 is male). Orchestra: piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, cor anglais, 2 clarinet in B flat, bass clarinet in B flat, tenor saxophone in B flat (jazz skills required), 2 bassoons, contra-bassoon, 4 trumpets in C (1st & 2nd doubling trumpets in D, 4th doubling flugelhorn in B flat, jazz skills required), 4 horns in F, 2 trombones, bass trombone, tuba, timpani, percussion (4 players, 2nd playing drumkit, jazz, funk skills required), harp, synthesizer (88 key, amplified, jazz skills required), strings (at least 188.8.131.52.8).
