Peace of the Running Waves to You is the title of this song set for medium voice (male or female) with piano accompaniment. I love the text which is a traditional Gaelic blessing and I hope the setting reflects that deep peace suggested by the words: "Peace of the running waves to you, deep peace of the flowing air to you, deep peace of the quiet earth to you, deep peace of the shining stars to you, deep peace of the shades of night to you, moon and stars always giving light to you, deep peace of Christ the Son of Peace". I have used this setting in my work with a Franciscan choir, male and female voices in unison with organ accompaniment.
Instrumentation: Voice, piano.
Duration: 2 min.
Difficulty: Medium — AMEB grade:6/7
Dedication note: For Bridie Murphy.
Commission note: Written for my grand-daughter and for the pleasure of setting the texts.
Peace of the Running Waves to You can be viewed as a companion piece to St. Brigid's Blessing; written within weeks of one another, the simplicity and beauty of the texts was the influence which gave direction to the musical setting.
