Work Overview

dancemusic is a suite of 16 short works for one dancer and a second performer who deploys improvised musical responses in performance on any instruments that will interact subtly with the stereo-playback (of the 16 pre-recorded works) and the dancer's choreography. The narrative material is existential and loosely based on experiential themes of isolation and belonging.

The 16 pre-recorded works are in a sequence of through-composed and improvised scores as well as several works gleaned from external environments and later mutated in the studio. There are written scores for what suits (toy piano), clown and clown waltz (piano).

1. entract (gleaned sounds)

2. hollow (gleaned sounds)

3. rain's bow (synthesiser, percussion)

4. what suits (toy piano)

6. dancemusic (toy piano)

7. bighit (prepared piano)

8. still (viola, synthesiser)
