There was never a movie for which I composed this score. The titles are designed to conjure up pictures in the listener's mind.

Instrumentation: 2 flutes, piccolo, 2 oboes, cor anglais, 2 clarinets, bass clarinet, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani, percussion (3 players), piano duet, strings.

Contents note: 1. The Town , the land, the people -- 2. Nocturne, parting, the riverboat sails -- 3. Melanie's father gives a ball for her birthday; only Jack knows the peril she is in -- 4. The burial on the mountain; snow and sunshine.

Vaguely Copland/Jerome Moross americana. It's a very approachable piece, quite melodious
