The musical material is shared equally between the two players although the unaccompanied opening mvt., the Soliloquy establishes the solo status of the flute part. There are darker shades throughout the first four mvts. but the Finale- Scherzando casts off the shadows in favour of lively and buoyant conclusion. There is a strong melodic element throughout.
Year: 2003, this version: 2013
Instrumentation: Flute, piano.
Duration: 16 min.
Contents note: Soliloquy -- Waltz -- Elegy -- Sicilienne -- Finale-Scherzando.
Commission note: Commissioned by British flautist Roger Armstrong in memory of his wife, Australian pianist Rosalie Myers
The music is approachable, melodic, offers a true partnership between the two players as they share the musical material
