The Suite - The children of Lir / Tristram Cary
Work Overview
The Children of Lir was the first major BBC dramatic feature with an entirely electronic score (even to the song accompaniments), and went to air on September 18, 1959.
Technically, Lir reflects the very basic resources I then had at my disposal, with some distortion, a good deal of tape noise and other faults. In preparing the suite in 1996, I resisted reworking passages with today's technology because I wanted to preserve as much as I could of the original atmosphere and present the sounds as nearly as possible as they were heard by the radio listeners of 1959.
