Based on various South American styles, this work opens with a toccata-like 'Preludio' in the form of a choros followed by a slow 'Tango' with slightly dark harmonies. 'Cancion del Rosa' is a nostalgic memory of the smell of a rose garden on a warm sunny afternoon and the last movement, 'Vals by Moonlight', is a homage to the great Venezuelan guitar composer Antonio Lauro.
Duration: 9 min.
Difficulty: Advanced — Some movements are of a medium level difficulty only
Contents note: Preludio -- 1. Tango in the dark -- 2. Cancion de la rosa (The song of the rose) -- 3. Vals by moonlight (Homage to Lauro).
Dedication note: Dedicated to Oliver Fartach-Naini
Commission note: Commissioned by Oliver Fartach-Naini.
First performance: by Hilary Field — 1 Jul 14. Seattle, Canada
Written in South American idiom.
'Preludio' added in 2007.
